He has come to Field Mill on a part-time basis as first team coach - after leaving new manager David Holdsworth's previous club Ilkeston.

The 52-year-old had been part of the Robins coaching team with Holdsworth since the summer - and joins physio Jason Truscott and sports scientist/nutritionist Gavin Jones in making the switch.

Philliskirk, who will also carry on as a PE teacher (at a school in Retford), saw his move to the Stags confirmed by the club late on Friday.

Holdsworth told Chad: "He will add to the backroom staff and is someone I know I can trust. Whoever you are as a manager, it is important to have people behind you who you can trust.

"He has a great knowledge of this football club . . . he will do various things like scouting and other things."

Holdsworth stressed again that he will not be having an assistant manager.

The coach was at Field Mill during Keith Curle's reign as manager and was director of youth at Field Mill from 2003-2006.

In an interview with the club's official website mansfieldtown.net and talking about the changes at Field Mill, he said: "The atmosphere here seems a lot happier and the approach more professional. The whole place seems totally different.
"I have known him (David) for 13 years. What you see is what you get, a great bloke. Professional from the outset, but wants to do well for everybody. You couldn't wish to work for a better bloke."

Philliskirk said that he knows some of the current squad who came through the Centre of Excellence from his first spell at Field Mill - for example, Nathan Arnold and Jamie McGhee.

Evening Post :
Holdsworth has announced his former number two at Ilkeston, Kevin Philliskirk, has joined the Mansfield backroom staff, but not as his number two.
Gavin Jones, as sports scientist and nutritionist, and Jason Truscott, as physio, have already followed form the New Manor Ground earlier in the week.
Instead, Philliskirk will help with scouting and other duties, with the Stags boss taking his time before appointing an assistant.
