CHAD website, 22 Aug 2008
MANSFIELD Town fans group the Stags Supporters Association (SSA) is helping the club to fund this weekend's overnight trip to Barrow.
The players will be travelling north on Friday ahead of Saturday's match at in-form Barrow, as they look to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

And for the second successive long distance away match, the players will be staying overnight as manager Billy McEwan trys to prepare his side as professionally as possible.

Now the fans group has agreed to fund half the cost of the stopover - and urged more fans to join the group so that it can continue to back the Stags' new owners, Andy Perry, Andy Saunders and Steve Middleton.

On Friday morning McEwan thanked the fans for their support. He told the club's official website mansfieldtown.net: "Can I thank fans at the SSA for their fantatstic gesture in helping . . . it is very much appreciated by myself and the team, who also chipped in with a contribution."

A spokesman for the SSA said on Thursday evening: "Following initial discussions between the SSA and the new owners at Mansfield Town, the SSA are delighted to agree to a request from Billy McEwan for financial help towards the cost of the players' overnight stay in Barrow for Saturday's very important Blue Square Premier fixture.

"The Stags could go top of the league this weekend and the SSA have agreed to go 50/50 with the club on funding the stopover in order to give the players the best possible preparation for the game.

"The SSA would like to thank all our Amber members for making this contribution possible. SSA are thrilled with the number of fans enrolling as SSA amber members following agreement of the takeover and would urge all Stags fans who can afford less than £1 a week to join SSA as an amber member.

"Money raised through the SSA will be used for the benefit of Mansfield Town, SSA members and/or the Stags Fans United Supporters Trust (SFU), who are fundraising to raise money to purchase shares in Mansfield Town FC."

Fans can join the SSA at the Ticket Office or Club Shop at Field Mill, as well as pre-match in the X Bar underneath the West Stand at any home fixture, including Bank Holiday Monday's game against Northwich.

SSA application forms are also available by ringing 07967 689597 or alternatively you can join instantly online at http://www.stagsnet.net
