Billy McEwan was an important player in the Stags side that gained promotion for the only time in its history to the second tier of English football in 1976/77, and is very fondly remembered. Below McEwan is pictured on the day the Stags won at Wrexham to clinch the Division III title.

McEwan played 32 league games for Mansfield, scoring 3 goals. He also played for Hibs, Blackpool, Brighton, Chesterfield, Peterborough, Rotherham. As manager he won Division IV title with Rotherham in 1989. He also managed Darlington and most recently York City in the Conference from where he was sacked in November. He also coached at Sheffield Utd, Scarborough, and for a long period at Derby. As coach at Derby he helped achieve promotion to the top flight in 1996.

Paul Holland
by Martin Shaw
Paul Holland has been a great servant to Mansfield Town. Holland was the only player in the Stags history to play for England under-21 side whilst at Field Mill. Many fans regard Holland as one of the finest players in the Stags history, and he would probably get in most fans' All Time Best Stags XI. His reputation was one of a tremendous box-to-box player with remarkable commitment.
