EARLIER STORIES:

Clubs awaiting 2008/09 fixtures

One of the most eagerly awaited days in the domestic football calendar arrives on Monday, 16 June - the release of the English and Scottish fixtures.

Premier League, Football League, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League fixtures for 2008/09 will be announced at 1000 BST.

All those fixtures, arranged by club and by division, will be immediately available on the BBC Sport website.

Selected fixtures will also be listed on Ceefax.

The draw for the first round of the Carling Cup has already been made, on Friday, 13 June.

However, the Football Conference will not be releasing fixtures for the Blue Square Premier, North and South divisions until a later date.

A rule change for the new season will see clubs able to name seven substitutes in Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup games, rather than five - which will continue to be the number for Football League matches.

However, as before, only three substitutions can be made during any game.

15 Jun 2008

WHILE it doesn't worry us directly for this coming season (!), tomorrow sees the release of The Football League fixture list for the 2008/09 season.

As Wrexham fans we will have to look on from sidelines this year and wait until about Friday, 4 July, to find out our fixtures in the Blue Square Premier. For once The Football League and Premiership fixtures are published, then Conference officials can sit down and start working out their dates.

------------

The fixtures for the 2008/09 season will be coming out about Friday 4th July.

Fans will be more used to seeing the fixtures released in mid-June, but that will be when the Blue Square starts work on our schedule, once they know the Premiership and Football League dates.

The Blue Square Premier will do their best to give clubs local derbies over Christmas and Easter, while also keeping to a minimum the number of long distance fixtures which are put into mid-weeks.

Dates of note will be:
Saturday 9th August - Season starts
Saturday 25th October - FA Cup (4th Qualifying)
Tuesday 4th November - Setanta Shield (3rd Round)
Saturday 13th December - FA Trophy (1st Round)
Saturday 25th April - Season ends
Saturday 9th May - FA Trophy Final
Sunday 17th May - Blue Square Premier Play-Off Final
