Stags takeover this week?
CHAD.co.uk, By Tim Morriss, 3 Mar 2008

THE takeover at Mansfield Town Football Club could still happen this week.
The completion of a deal for the Stags between controversial owner Keith Haslam and a group of businessmen fell through at the last minute on Friday when one of the group's backers pulled out.

But Chad understands that the takeover is still a possibility as the businessmen - believed to be local - seek new financial support.

Discussions have been taking place between interested parties since Friday's breakdown, as the takeover saga at Field Mill continues to rumble on.

And Stags chief executive Stephen Booth, handling the sale for the club, told Chad on Monday: "The broad terms of the proposal have been agreed, there is still potential for this to be resolved this week.

"But I would be very surprised if anything happened today (Monday)."

On Saturday he had told Chad that the sale of the club had been 98% completed before the last-minute hitch the previous day.

He said: "We all hoped it would be done, but then one of the group's backers decided that the deal was not for them, for whatever reason.

"But I want to stress that does not mean the deal is dead at all. On the contrary, it is still very much alive and it is a matter now for those who tabled the bid to regroup."

Mr Booth again stressed today that he is also talking to other groups about a takeover, as well as the businessmen involved in Friday's talks.
