Fans group call for Stags boycott

TWO Stags supporters groups have renewed their attack on owner Keith Haslam after his surprise appointment on Tuesday of a new chief executive.
Mr Haslam stepped down from all day-to-day involvement at Field Mill, saying his position at the club had become untenable.

Stephen Booth will now try to stabilise the club's precarious financial position - it is reported to be on course to lose £500,000 this year - move the Stags forward and try to find a new buyer, after Mr Haslam last Thursday rejected an offer from the James Derry consortium.

But the news failed to impress two fans' groups. On Saturday the Stags Supporters Association, TEAM Mansfield and Stags Fans For Change united for a rare joint statement - calling on fans to boycott income streams to Field Mill and Mr Haslam to sell to the James Derry consortium.

Now two of the groups, TM and SFFC, have renewed their attack on the Stags owner, with one urging fans to boycott all future home games.

A spokesman for SFFC said: "We are now calling on all Stags fans to boycott all home games for the foreseeable future.

"This Saturday we urge all those boycotters - both new and old - to gather on the banking to show solidarity and send a clear message to Keith Haslam.

"Despite the appointment of the new CEO, like The Who we 'Won't Get Fooled Again'! Our message to Keith Haslam is clear — 'go and go now'.

TEAM Mansfield chairman Chris Vasper said last night: "This changes nothing, until there is evidence to the contrary this is just Keith Haslam by proxy."
