CHAD.co.uk, 09 Oct 2007, By John Lomas
GARETH Jelleyman and Chris Woods were told they do not need operations last night.
The pair travelled together to the North-east to see a specialist, but both came through their examinations without any surgery being planned.
"It is encouraging news," said manager Billy Dearden.

"Jells' cartilage is all right and it is just strained knee ligaments.
"He could be back in two or three weeks. Woody has been told rest and rehabilitaiion and he might be three or four weeks with his ankle ligaments.

"But we thought it best to have it looked at as this surgeon had operated on the same ankle before.

"We will certainly need to bring in a defender for cover this week, though."

Fellow defenders Martin McIntosh and Jake Buxton are already on the treatment table.

Central defender Martin McIntosh will still be another two to three weeks withy his hamstring strain but Buxton could be back for Barnet this weekend.

Jon D'Laryea returned to training at long last today with some light jogging.

But he is still some way off a first team return.

Defenders see specialist

Stags could be dealt another defensive double blow today.
Gareth Jelleyman and Chris Wood have travelled together to the North-east to see a specialist and both could end up needing operations tonight or tomorrow.

Jelleyman has a knee injury which may need cartilage surgery while youngster Wood has suffered ankle ligament damage exactly where he suffered a similar injury in the past.

"If they need anything doing it will probably be done while they are up there," said assistant boss Paul Holland.

"Losing Jells for any length of time would be a problem as he is probably the only naturally left footed defender at the football club.
"We want to bring in a couple of players this week and if he is out then a left back will become a priority."

Fellow defenders Martin McIntosh and Jake Buxton are already on the treatment table.

Stags have not kept a clean sheet in 16 matches and have suffered a series of injuries at the back which has left it impossible to play a settled back four.

Midfield ace Jon D'Laryea returned to training at long last today with some light jogging.

But he is still some way off a first team return.
