Lee Bullock can't wait for Saturday to get his season started.
The 26-year-old midfielder linked up with his new team mates in training for the first time this morning as he begins a month on loan from Hartlepool United where he has found himself out in the cold since helping them to promotion last season.

"I am very pleased to be here and I am really looking forward to getting going and getting my season started," he said.

"You do all the pre-season graft and work really hard but, as yet, I have not been involved in the first team there which is frustrating.

"Coming here is a great move as it gives me a chance to prove a point to certain people.

"I was in and out of the side last season but we went on a great run and you couldn't really grumble if you weren't in the team.

"But I have been a bit disappointed not to be involved this season and need to take my chance elsewhere.

"The manager has brought in new players into the squad and so they will play.

"You can either sulk and look an idiot or you can work hard, go elsewhere and prove people wrong.

"I have had a month out at Hartlepool and not got anywhere so it's good to come here and start enjoying it again."

He added: "I just want to play games and see what happens. You never know in football.

"If I can get my season and Mansfield's season going then that would be great.

"I could have a good month and go back up to Hartlepool into their first team which would be brilliant for me. Or maybe something could happen here.

"Football can be a silly game and one month you are flying, he next you are out on loan. You just have to get on with it."

Bullock is described as a 6ft tough-tackling midfielder. What attributes does he think he can bring to the Stags?

"I always give 100 per cent, I like to win headers, get stuck in and win tackles and, from a selfish point of view, I also like to score goals," he said.

He admitted that former Stags goal hero Richie Barker, now a team mate at Hartlepool, helped him make his mind up to join the Stags.
"I spoke to Richie last week and he was one of a number of people who said go for it," he said.

"He told me this is a good club with some good young players.
"I have played here with Hartlepool and York so I know it is always a nice ground to come to with a good atmosphere.

"Obviously Danny Wilson (the Hartlepool boss) has told me about the gaffer here (Billy Dearden). They are good friends and he has told me some very good things about him.

"Now I just can't wait to get going on Saturday."

Dearden: Why I signed Bullock
Evening Post, 30Aug 2007
NEW signing Lee Bullock will bring a 'new dimension' to Mansfield's midfield, Billy Dearden today insisted.
The Stags boss has clinched a deal to take the 26-year-old on a month's loan from Hartlepool.

He will go straight into the squad to face Stockport at Field Mill where he will vie for a place in the centre with Stephen Dawson and Lee Bell.

“We have taken Lee for a month to start with and we will see how it goes from there,” said Dearden.

“He's got an eye for goal from midfield and he likes to get forward. He's also got a bit more experience than we've got in there at the moment and I think he will be able to help with our organisation.

“He went to Cardiff for big money earlier in his career and he has scored one or two important goals in his time.

“Lee's a fit lad and a decent type and I think he will give us another dimension.”

Bullock began his senior career in 1998 at York after coming through the ranks and quickly earned a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.

He made more than 150 appearances for the Minstermen before moving for £100,000 to Cardiff in 2004.

But his first-team chances at Ninian Park were limited and he moved to Hartlepool in 2005.

However, he has yet to make a first-team appearance this season for Danny Wilson's men. and Dearden revealed he had little trouble persuading 6ft tall, Stockton-born Bullock to come south.

He said: “Whatever level you are at and whether you are earning big or small money, you want to be playing football – and Lee is no different.

“He hasn't played for the Hartlepool first team this season, but I saw him play for their reserves against Hull last week and he's also played in pre-season, so he has been getting some games.”

Bullock's arrival at Mansfield may not be the only one before the close of the permanent transfer window tomorrow.

Dearden has also made an offer for another unnamed player – which would be a permanent move.

Bullock joins Stags on loan
CHAD website, 29Aug2007
STAGS boss Billy Dearden was delighted to land Hartlepool United midfielder Lee Bullock on a month's loan today.
But he admitted his other transfer target is now in the hands of the two clubs agreeing a fee after he agreed terms with the player.

The tough-tackling 26-year-old Bullock, who helped Hartlepool to promotion last season, is due in at the club in the morning and should make his debut against Stockport County this Saturday.

As to whether another new face will be involved, Dearden said: "There is no problem with the lad - terms have all been sorted out.

"But I have now left it to them to sort out the fee. We will have to see if they can come to an agreement.

"It is between the two clubs to sort and it's in their hands now."

On the addition of Bullock, he said: "I am very pleased as I have been trying to get him for a week or so.

"Lee will come in on a month's loan to start with and we'll take it from there.

"He is a goalscoring midfield player and if you look at his record he is always likely to score you goals.

"He can play in a few positions, anywhere along midfield or even up front, though I want him in midfield.

"He had a very successful season with Hartlepool last year when they went up. But they have brought players in and, although he is in the squad every week, he is not playing football and he just wants to play football.

"From that point of view he will come here and I hope we can get his season going and take it from there."

Stags sign midfielder on loan
Evening Post, 29 Aug 2007
Mansfield have snapped up experienced midfielder Lee Bullock on a month's loan from League One Hartlepool.
The 26-year-old is due to arrive at Field Mill tomorrow and goes straight into the squad to face Stockport County at home on Saturday.

Bullock began his career at York in 1998 where he made more than 150 appearances and earned a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.

He was then signed by Cardiff for £100,000 in 2004 but never really hit it off at Ninian Park and moved on to Hartlepool in 2005.

But he has yet to start a League One game for Danny Wilson's side this season and is eager to get back into first team action.

"We have taken Lee for as month to start with and we will see how it goes from there," said Stags boss Billy Dearden.

"He's got an eye for goal from midfield and he likes to get forward. He's also got a bit more experience than we've got in there at the moment.

"Lee hasn't played for the Hartlepool first team this season, but I saw him play for their reserves against Hull last week, so he has been getting some games."

Bullock's arrival at Mansfield may not be the only one before the close of the permanent transfer window on Friday.

Dearden has also made an offer for another unnamed player - which would be a permanent move.

He said: "There is another player I am trying to bring in permanently and it may come off or may not.

"But that move would have to be concluded by Friday."
