DEARDEN HOPES AS BAPTISTE SIGNS UP
EveninG Post, 07 July 2007

The best is yet to come from Alex John-Baptiste in a Mansfield shirt, according to Stags boss Billy Dearden.

The 21-year-old central defender ended speculation over his future on Monday by signing a new three-year contract at Field Mill.

Dearden believes John-Baptiste - who saw a move to League One Crewe fall through in June - has made the right choice in helping his career develop.

And the Mansfield manager feels he is the right man to take the former youth player's game on to the next level.

"I think it's the best move and is in Bap's interests for him to stay with us," said Dearden.

"If he keeps playing well, he is going to get other clubs interested anyway and that will allow him to move up the leagues.

"It would be nice if we could move up together. I still think there is plenty of improvement to come from him.

"It is nice that we should see at least some of it come while he is in a Mansfield shirt."

The Stags play Leicester on July 20, Derby County on July 28 and Huddersfield Town on August 4 - all at Field Mill.

Prices for those games are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions each.

But fans who attend all three pre-season home games will receive a £5 discount - if their tickets are purchased in advance. The offer closes at 5pm on Thursday July 19.
