'Wrong fan' letter row rumbles on
CHAD website, 09May2007

MANSFIELD MP Alan Meale's solicitor Martin Lee has categorically denied suggestions that the identity of a Stags' fan 'wrongly' pursued for defamation was acquired through Mansfield Town FC's list of season ticket holders.
His statement comes in response to comments from a number of Stags fans questioning whether or not Mr Meale used his close relationship with Mansfield Town FC to get the postal address of supporter Mark Wells.

Mr Meale had successfully forced the Stags Supporters' Association (SSA) to release the email addresses of two people who allegedly posted defamatory comments on its website http://www.stagsnet.net –– but the website did not release their postal addresses.

Mr Wells –– a season ticket holder who denies making any defamatory comments about Mr Meale –– has asked for Mr Meale to disclose how he obtained his personal identity.

But Mr Lee yesterday told Chad that although he could not confirm how Mr Wells' address was acquired, it was not taken from the football club's list of season ticket holders.
