DEARDEN A GREAT INFLUENCE
Evening Post, 28 March 2007

Nathan Arnold reckons Billy Dearden can help him become a force in league football - just like he did for Liam Lawrence.

Arnold is one of a crop of promising youngsters at Field Mill, along with Danny Sleath, Rory Boulding and Chris Wood.

And he is convinced Dearden - who nurtured several young players in his first spell as Stags boss - can put him on the road to success.

"Billy has brought others through, so that gives you confidence that he knows what he is doing," said Arnold.

"When he was here last time, Liam Lawrence, Leroy Williamson and Bobby Hassell all came through the youth set up. They are all earning a decent living out of the game at a higher level.

"Billy gave them a chance to play and he's come in and told me that he will do the same for me. He has told me to express myself and that's what I want.

"It is frustrating to be in and out of the side because I want to play every game.

"But if the gaffer has been successful doing that before with the young lads, then you know that he is trying to do the right thing for you."

Arnold confirmed he has yet to sign the two-year deal which is in the pipeline but he anticipates no problems.

He said: "We have had a talk about it, but nothing has been done yet.

"The gaffer says he wants to get it sorted and I trust him."
