Shirtliff reaction to Walsall collapse
Four second half goals saw Mansfield Town crumble to a 4-0 dfeat at League Two leaders Walsall this afternoon.
Stags boss Peter Shirtliff said: "The second half was a crazy 45 minutes. The second goal killed us in all honesty.
"They scored with their first shot on goal and this season that has happened more often than that.
"I was very pleased with our first half performance though I was a bit disappointed that in and around their box we didn't show a bit more invention and positive ness.
"But the bottom line is that we have now failed to score in four away matches and conceded nine.
"There is no doubt goals change games. The first goal was scrappy and down to poor defending. The second was just a joke and was difficult to take. It was an easy save and yet it goes in.
"Jason has got to pick himself up now. There is no hiding place for keepers. He has to get ready for Notts County and move forward.
"At 2-0 down way to the leaders it is a lot to ask to come back. But we shouldn't get ourselves in that position. It's happening too often."

Walsall 4 v 0 Mansfield Town
Walsall manager Richard Money proved the boo boys wrong at the Bescot Stadium after a change of formation worked wonders against Mansfield.

With the game goalless at half-time, Money reverted to 4-5-1 and brought off striker Hector Sam to match the Stags - much to the annoyance of the home crowd - and was rewarded as the Saddlers hit four goals to maintain their 100% home league record.

Money said: "We were forced to change the shape slightly because we were being outnumbered in the middle of the pitch.

"The players showed they are very adaptable and listen to what I say at half-time and full credit to them."

Mansfield boss Peter Shirtliff was flabbergasted by the scoreline after the way his team had played in the first half.

He said: "Walsall's first goal came from their first shot on target, which is happening to us all the time, and the second goal was due to a goalkeeping error.

"After that I was disappointed with our character but we have to pick ourselves up and it's no good moping about it.

"But we are too easy to score against and that's our problem.

"Their goalkeeper made a very good save from Alan Sheehan's free kick at 1-0 and things like that change a game. Walsall's goalkeeper played very well and I thought at 1-0 he was the difference between the two sides."
