CHAD WEBSITE.

A mixed Alfreton Town side recorded a fine 4-2 friendly win over a Mansfield Town XI in a friendly at the Impact Arena on Tuesday evening.
Craig Mitchell put the Reds ahead on 7 minutes and after Chris Beardsley equalised for the Stags, Alfreton went into the interval 2-1 up after Anton Brown netted on 32.
Mansfield were handed an equaliser courtesy of an own goal early in the second half but two goals by the lively Matt Glass on 63 and 80 swung the victory verdict to Alfreton.

It wasn't the best game with the Stags looking a little shakey. Alfreton look a physical side with Mitchell lucky not to have been spoken to. McIntosh for the Stags on the other hand was after trying to tell the ref his job once too often.

Mitchell opened up for Alfreton with some decent work in the box. His shot was knocked onto the bar by White but the ball fell to him again 8 yards out and he doesn't miss those.

The Stags had a few good chances from Reet and Arnold with the latter hitting the post. Reet pulled the Stags level after holding the ball up well, turning and shooting with the keeper getting a touch to it.

The home side took the lead again through a very dodgy freekick. Sergeant apparently conceeded the foul by letting the Alfreton player (Mitchell I think) pull his shirt and then stumbling to the ground as he did so. Free kick in and their number 6 ghosted in the head the ball down into the corner.

Once again the Stags pulled level this time through Beardsley who shot low across goal into the far corner. It could well have taken a deflection but from where we were I couldn't tell.

The home side then took advantage of their direct game and some sloppy defending when their number 9 was put through and with a little shimmy to the right slotted the ball past White.

A similar move should have seen an almost identical goal but White was wise to it this time. A cross saw their number 6 glance a header past White but it was deemed offside.

The fourth was a well won goal although the Stags were guilty of being a little lightweight on the ball. A backheal from Mitchell should have been dealt with but the nippy Alfreton winger took the ball into the box only to see his shot deflected. Fortunately for him it fell to another Alfreton player who slotted it home. A good goal but the Stags had ample chances to clear the ball.

Overall the Stags did ok ish. Nothing special from the first teamers who would have been there for match fitness mainly. Coke needs to concentrate on his game more than arguing as a couple of times the ball was played while he was still answering back the referee.

Out of the youngsters there were some decent prospects but I couldn't help thinking they were too lightweight. Even the smaller Alfreton players were shrugging them off the ball so the likes of Mitchell and their number 6 were having a fun time.
