Stags to take on Spanish club Alaves
mansfieldtown.net, 30 July 2002
The Stags could well have another friendly to add to their pre-season
fixture list, and what a game it will be.
Alaves who finished 7th in the top flight Spanish League 'La Liga' last
season, begin a tour of England on Saturday and Mansfield Town F.C have
been selected as one of their opponents for the tour.
Chairman, Keith Haslam is 99% certain that the game will go ahead, he is
awaiting one final phone call to confirm that the game will be set for
Monday evening (5th August).
This will be a fantastic experience for everyone involved with Mansfield
Town Football Club, players, management , staff, but most of all you the
fans.
This is a chance to see a team who just the other season were competing in
the final of the UEFA Cup against Liverpool. All of their players should be
involved with the tour, which would include former Manchester United
forward Jordi Cruyff, new loan signing Luis Helguerra and a whole host of
European stars.
Alaves Kick Off the tour on Saturday against Portsmouth, they will then
travel north to Field Mill on Monday evening before going north again to
Middlesborough on Wednesday. They complete their tour a week on Saturday
against Premiership newboys Birmingham City at St Andrews.
This will be a fantastic opportunity for the club and the supporters and it
gives us a chance to promote lower league football.
The fixture should be confirmed later today as well as news of ticket
prices. We would love to see the stadium sold out and show the Spanish Club
how good Mansfield Town supporters are.
