INJURY FEARS FOR HJELDE
Evening Post, 17 August 2006
Jon-olav Hjelde is a major doubt for Mansfield's trip to Grimsby on Friday night - but Giles Coke could be back in the reckoning.

The Norwegian defender was forced off early in the Stags' 1-1 home draw with Stockport after feeling his hamstring tighten.

An initial assessment of the injury suggests it is a tweak rather than a pull - but it could still be enough for the player to miss the trip to Blundell Park.

"It is not a bad one and we will have to see how it responds to treatment," said Shirtliff.

The good news is that Coke is recovering fast from the ankle knock he picked up in the draw at Shrewsbury.

The midfielder has missed Mansfield's last two matches but his manager is quietly confident he will back in the squad tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Shirtliff has confirmed that Stephen Dawson will not be suspended for an incident in the Milton Keynes game.

The midfielder appeared to be shown a second yellow card late in the game by referee Kevin Wright, but was not sent off by the Cambridgeshire official.

But Shirtliff says the referee always intended to book Matt Hamshaw - who is now down for the offence - only to mistakenly show the card to Dawson.

Former Stags midfielder Gus Uhlenbeek has signed for Conference club Halifax Town on a non-contract basis with a view to a permanent deal. The Dutchman was released by Mansfield at the end of last season.

The former Oldham Athletic trainee moves to Moss Rose after making just five appearances for Mansfield last season.
