BEARDSLEY WAS TOLD AT XMAS HE WOULD GET CONTRACT
14th July 2006 0:04

BBC Nottingham online, 13.07.06
The Mansfield Town striker Chris Beardsley has revealed how he was told last Christmas that he'd be offered a new contract. The 22-year-old hasn't played in the first team since last August, when he broke his leg against Notts County. It means he didn't get a chance to play in the first team under the management of Peter Shirtliff. Shirtliff, though, has handed the forward a new one year deal, and Beardsley was grateful to his boss for telling him mid-season that the contract was coming.

The Mansfield Town manager Peter Shirtliff says it wouldn't have been fair to allow striker Chris Beardsley to leave Field Mill, following a season wrecked by injury. The 22-year-old has signed a new one-year deal, after missing most of last season with a broken leg. Shirtliff believes it was only right to offer Beardsley another 12 months at the club.
