SEVEN SIGN FOR STAGS
Evening Post, 07 July 2006
MATT HALFPENNY

All seven of Mansfield Town's out-of-contract players have now signed new deals.

Jon-olav Hjelde, Jason White, Callum Lloyd, Gareth Jelleyman and Chris Beardsley have signed one-year contracts.

Simon Brown and Giles Coke rejected two-year deals, but have agreed one-year extensions to remain at the club next season.

"We would have liked them to sign for two years," said Shirtliff. "But they have taken up their option for a further year."

Shirtliff is looking at options to fill the slot vacated by the departures of Laurence Wilson and Adam Rundle and also a goalkeeper to give competition to White.

"I am looking at left-sided midfielders, but I am keeping my options open with regards to the goalkeeper," said Shirtliff.

"It may be that I can follow the option of getting one on loan once the season gets under way.

"There are one or two players we are talking to at the moment and hopefully I might be able to make a signing later this week."

Shirtliff has been pleased with the way things have been going since the players reported back last Wednesday.

He is also happy that the club have secured the use of good training facilities after encountering problems last year.

"Most of the lads have looked after themselves while they have been away. We've just started to get the footballs out to work with after lots of running. It's still early days but we're doing what's required."
