30th April 2006 18:40

** Stop press: Chris Greenacre to play **

On Sunday the 30th April 2006 a Stags supporters side made up from members of Follow The Yellow Brick Road FC, who play against other teams supporters, will be taking on an All-Star Stags side at the home of Teversal FC, Carnarvon Street, with a 4pm kick off.

The game is in aid of The Nottingham City Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and admission to the game will be £2 Adults and £1 Concessions.

Ex-Stags players from all ages will be representing the Stags side. Several players who have kindly agreed to take part are: Phil Stant, Steve Wilkinson, Simon Coleman, Paul Holland, Mark Kearney, Ernie Moss, Stuart Watkiss, Sandy Pate, Colin Foster, Mick Laverick, Steve Spooner, Danny Bacon, Les McJannet. A few more are expected to confirm in the week.

Stop press; Jimmy McCaffrey will be there and will play, for as long as his body allows. ** Now Kevin Bird will also play.**

Steve Hartshorn said:
“Wayne Sharpe, one of the players who play for the fanzine side, approached me a few weeks ago and told us about how his partner, Alison Mcintyre had unfortunately lost her son to Burkitts Lymphoma a rare form of Leukaemia in March of last year and she wondered if there was anything we could do to raise some money for the Notts City Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Of course we were eager to help in anyway we could and so it was decided to try and arrange a match between a side of Stags Supporters and a side of Ex-Stags players.

Along with myself, James Brunt who plays for our side and who works for Abacus Lighting have been busy ever since arranging things.

The game will be taking place at Carnarvon Street, the home of Teversal FC. I'd like to thank Kev Newton and all at Teversal FC for kindly letting us play the game on their ground and they are opening the bar and Snack Bar for the people who are coming to watch the game.

We have even had a trophy donated by Premier Trophies of Outram Street, Sutton in Ashfield and Abacus Lighting have agreed to sponsor the game, along with Hero of Pinxton, who supply our kit, who have generously said they will provide the Stags All Star side with a complete kit which we will get each player to sign and auction off in the bar afterwards.

As well as raising money for Notts City Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, the game will also be in remembrance of Stephen Mcintyre who was a big football fan who unfortunately lost his battle against Burkitts Lymphoma, a rare for of Leukaemia on the 9th March 2005.

I have had the pleasure of speaking to legendary names in Stags history such as Steve Wilkinson and Sandy Pate, who have been terrific in their support of the game but my greatest wish is that the public of Mansfield turn up and support the game. We are charging £2 for Adults and £1 for Concessions and really do hope that we get a few hundred or so in to lend their support to the venture. It will be a chance to witness a side of Stags All Stars, a side that many will never get the chance to see play football again, players like Phil Stant, Steve Spooner and Ex-Stags manager, Stuart Watkiss. All in all it should be a fantastic day and with a 4pm kick off, what better is there to do on a late Sunday afternoon than to come along to Teversal FC and watch a game of football between a side of Stags Supporters and a side that represents the very best of what Mansfield Town Football club has served up over the last 30 odd years – All in the name of Charity."
