STAGS IN FOR 2ND STRIKER
25th July 2002 10:46

With talks being held over Colin Larkin, the Stags manager has also made an offer for another striker. The player who has not yet been named, would be another great signing in the eyes of the manager, "He's a vastly experienced Centre forward and he's played at a decent level. He's the sort of player who would not only be a fantastic player himself, he would also bring on lots of the younger lads at the club." With the squad now growing in size and strength, competition for places is very high at the club and this is something that pleases the manager," My best 11 available players will be the 11 that start each game, all of the lads know that and they're all trying to show me that they are worthy of a shirt. Competition at centre half is extremely high, I've brought in Moore, Scott and Gadsby but then I also have the existing centre halfs and I can already see improvement in all of them because they are each determined to be involved in the starting line up against Plymouth. We have a similar situation up front and if I get my hands on the lads I've made offers for, the stakes will be raised for that position as well." Watkiss hopes to hear news on his offer for for the experienced striker, early next week.
