FTYBR (Mansfield Town) 3 Mad Hatters (Stockport County) 2

Wheatman 3, Bird G 7, Stokes 16.

FTYBR FC got back to winning ways this Saturday morning with a well-deserved and well fought for 3-2 over their counterparts from Stockport County.

The Mad Hatters who were previously unbeaten in the IFA league this season were put on the back foot right from the start when on 3 minutes a speculative shot from distance by Jamie Wheatman eluded the County keeper and nestled into the back of the net. (Most folks said it was a cross, Jamie said he meant it!)

It was 2-0 just 4 minutes later when Man of the match, Gary Bird brilliantly lobbed the keeper to score his first ever FTYBR goal.

There was more delight on 16 minutes when Drew Stokes reacted well to slam in the 3rd. Unfortunately just four minutes later, Drew tried to clear a County shot but all he succeeded in doing was to steer the ball onto the post and across the line. 3-1.

On the hour mark and against the run of play, Stockport added a second with a well-placed header. There was then a terrific save from Nick Sankey as the visitors went in search of an equaliser.

The Mansfield side now had a battle on their hands playing against the wind but in truth could and should have been further ahead but in the end were deserved winners by three goals to two.
