STAGS DROP INTEREST IN BECKETT; KEEPER DEAL?
2nd July 2005 23:13

KEEPER DEAL?
Evening Post, 2 July 2005
Carlton Palmer is poised to sign a Premiership goalkeeper - and he's also made a bid for another defender.

"I've agreed a deal with a Premiership keeper and I'm just waiting for his manager to get back to me," said the Stags boss.

"I've also made an offer to a centre half, but we're still interested in Chris Beardsley."

Palmer has spoken to Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock about Luke Beckett and Alex John-Baptiste.

But he insists John-Baptiste is staying at Field Mill.

"We don't want to sell Alex and we've dropped our interest in Luke Beckett," said Palmer.

"Since we signed Matthew Tipton, there hasn't been the need to add another striker to the squad."
