TEAMtalk:

Palmer sets return date

Mansfield manager Carlton Palmer intends marking his return to match action when the the Stags play host to pre-season friendly opponents Derby next month.

The 39-year-old had already declared his intention to register as a player in time for the the start of Town's 2005-06 campaign, despite having last kicked a ball in anger for Stockport when the Hatters beat Cheltenham 2-0 at Whaddon Road in February 2003 - when Palmer was sent off.

And now the former England international has confirmed plans to feature in the Stags side due to play Derby at Field Mill on Saturday, July 16.

He said: "I've undertaken a training regime which has been specifically designed for me by the sports scientists at the club.

"I plan to be making my first appearance in the pre-season friendly against Derby."
