Mansfield Town have declared an open admiration for Junior Agogo, and insisted they would be making an offer for the Bristol Rovers man on Monday.
The striker has been at his prolific best for the League Two outfit this season, bagging 19 goals so far, and has attracted strong interest from Stags boss Carlton Palmer.
However, Rovers manager Ian Atkins will no doubt be reluctant to let his top scorer go, and Palmer has admitted that the 25-year-old may be out of his financial reach.
"We made an enquiry about him about five weeks ago and their manager told us that they had already been offered £300,000 for the player," Palmer told Mansfield's official website.
"But we later found out that this was not the case and have since spoken to the club again.
"We will be putting in an official bid later this afternoon, the chairman has said that money is available to buy the player but it depends on whether he is in our reach.
"I'm not sure whether Atkins would let him leave before the summer or not, but this is a player that I would like to bring to this football club, we're just going to have to wait and see."
Agogo has been monitored by Championship sides this season, and it remains to be seen whether he would be keen to move to the side just one place above Rovers in the league table.

There will be one or two players leaving the club in the summer and they know who they are and a couple coming in as well.

Alex John-Baptiste returned to training this morning after missing out on training due to concussion and recurring headaches recently:

"All the tests have come back clear and everything is looking fine so we will have to see what happens. His headaches have stopped so we will see how he is later in the week." Said Palmer.
