Phil Trainer on trail
Teamtalk, 30 May 2002 Stuart Watkiss confirmed today he will be having a look at young midfielder Phil Trainer, recently released by Crewe, in pre-season training. Trainer, 21 this summer, actually played a game for The Stags' youth team two years ago, putting in an impressive performance and scoring a goal. But Crewe came in with a two-year contract for the Wolverhampton-born youngster and he has been there ever since. Standing 6ft tall, the left-sided midfielder is said to be a tough tackler but also a good passer of the ball. He began playing for Fordhouse Gala and moved into the Football League at Walsall. "He impressed last time and we will have another look at him and see how things go," said Watkiss. "I am sure there will be one or two others here for pre-season trials but Phil is the first so far." --------- http://www.crewealex.net Birthplace: Wolverhampton DOB: 03/07/1981 Position: Midfielder Signed: 01/06/2000 Height: 6ft Weight: 12st 2lb Previously with Walsall, Phil was recommended to the club by former physio Eddie Edwards and he has taken his chance with both hands. The midfielder impressed Gradi with his enthusiasm and tough-tackling approach, so much so that the Midlands youngster was offered a 2-year deal. Should be pushing for a first-team outing this season or to be involved with the squad at least. Phil possesses a powerful shot and is a good passer of the ball. Previous Club: Fordhouse Gala |
