Mansfield caretaker boss Carlton Palmer is set to snap up Peterborough defender Gareth Jelleyman on a free transfer.
The Stags' pursuit of the former Wales Under-21 international has been delayed by injuries to the 24-year-old.

But Posh boss Barry Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "Carlton is keen on Gareth and I won't stand in his way if he wants to go.

"He's out of contract at the end of the season and I've told him he can leave on a free transfer then."

Peterborough left-back Gareth Jelleyman looks set to join Mansfield Town on a free transfer - and could sign in time to play against Southend on Saturday.

But Neil MacKenzie is poised to turn his loan spell at Macclesfield into a permanent move.

Carlton Palmer says a deal to bring a new left-back in on an 18-month deal is "definitely on".

Peterborough manager Barry Fry said: "Carlton is very keen on Gareth and I won't stand in the way of a move if he wants to go. I've already told him he can leave on a free transfer."

The 24-year-old, a former Welsh Under 21 international, has not featured for Posh this year after pulling his hamstring in the side's game against Oldham on December 28.

Palmer confirmed that he wants to offload MacKenzie, who has been on loan at Macclesfield since November.

He said: "We are struggling in midfield at the moment. It will enable me to bring another midfielder in."
