WILLIAMSON ON ASSAULT CHARGE
16th September 2004 23:04

Ex-Stags' star accused of assaulting councillor
CHAD

FORMER Stags' player Lee Williamson has been charged with common assault on Mansfield district councillor Sue Biddle after an incident at the club's Field Mill ground earlier this year.
The incident is believed to have happened during a meeting on 15th April to resolve a row between players and the owner of the Ritz Indian restaurant, on Ravensdale Road, over an unpaid Christmas party bill.
Williamson (24) was sold to Northampton Town for an undisclosed fee last week after making 164 appearances for the Stags.
Yesterday Mansfield Town chairman Keith Haslam told Chad: "This a personal thing to Lee Williamson and none of our business. He is not employed by us anymore so we have no reason to comment. He is now a Northampton Town player."
Williamson, who came through the club's youth system before progressing to the first team, will appear before Mansfield Magistrates' Court on 11th October.
Coun Biddle is an independent councillor for the Ravensdale Ward.
