DEAN HANKEY LATEST
4th September 2004 10:34

Dean Hankey has been playing in all five league games for IFK Mora since he came over to Sweden.

“He's been very valuable to us and has settled in very well in the town and with the club”, Lasse Ericsson, co-trainer at IFK Mora, said.

And Lasse has proof for what he concluded.

Hankey has been on the score-sheet on four occasions so far. One goal in the local derby at home to Färnäs SK, which was won 3-2. A couple of weeks later, he scored twice when Vansbro AIK were beaten 3-2 as well – and last Saturday, he scored once in the 2-0 away win at third-placed Hulåns IF (see table below courtesy of http://www.svenskfotboll.se/dalarna). But in that game at Hulån, Hankey was sent-off for two bookable offences and is therefore suspended for the home tie against Horndals IF on Sunday.

Table for fifth division Dalarna, northern section as of Saturday, August 28:

1. IFK Mora FK 14 12 2 0 37 - 11 38
2. Grycksbo IF BK 14 11 1 2 28 - 9 34
3. Hulåns IF 14 8 2 4 32 - 20 26
4. Malungs IF 14 7 4 3 27 - 15 25
5. Vansbro AIK 14 6 4 4 35 - 23 22
6. Horndals IF 14 5 3 6 33 - 32 18
7. Sollerö IF 14 5 1 8 30 - 34 16
8. Färnäs SK 14 3 5 6 27 - 36 14
9. Stora Tuna IK 14 1 1 12 18 - 43 4
10. Mockfjärds BK 14 0 1 13 12 - 56 1

“In England, Hankey wouldn't have been sent-off for the offences at Hulån”, Lasse Ericsson explained.

At Mora, Hankey plays some kind of a sweeper behind the forward line, a role Hankey has liked so far.

“We are more than pleased with him both on and off the field so far” Ericsson told stagsnet.

And the signs are, that the co-operation between IFK Mora and the Stags might be extended if it all works out.

The initiatiors of this step were John Gannon and Christer Lindh, latter co-trainer with Lasse Ericsson at IFK Mora.

And when John Gannon played at IFK Mora way back in 1985, Lasse Ericsson also was the IFK Mora trainer, while Christer Lindh played alongside Gannon then.

“We have had very good experience with English players over the years”. Lasse Ericsson explained to stagsnet.

IFK Mora are heading their league table with four games to go.

“But we're not discussing promotion yet”, Lasse Ericsson reminded.

Stagsnet has also learned that Dean Hankey now has a flat of his own in Mora. An interview with Hankey himself might even be possible in the near future.
