SIDES OPT OUT OF COUNTY CUP
CHAD Mansfield Town, Notts County and Nottm Forest have all agreed to pay exemption fees to the Notts FA instead of competing for the County Cup. Support for the once-popular Cup waned dramatically until it was reduced to a one-day Under 21 event. So all three clubs have agreed to instead donate cash which will go towards the grassroots of the game. A Notts FA spokesman said, "The money will be ploughed back into local football. Indeed, on the understanding that the professional clubs were likely to follow this course, the County Association decided to hold other clubs' affiliation fees at the level set in 2001 in an effort to keep costs for these members as low as possible. The Notts FA is pleased the three clubs have recognised the importance of the local game in this manner, and wish each of them success in the season ahead." |
