CLARKE IS SNAPPED UP
Evening Post, 11 June 2004 Jamie Clarke has been snapped up by Rochdale after being released by Mansfield Town last week. The 21-year-old defender played 16 league games for the Stags last season. He links up with former Stags boss Steve Parkin at the Dale, along with 19-year-old Craig Armstrong from Leeds, who had an unsuccessful trial at Field Mill last season. Clarke, who can play at full-back or centre-half, said: "I just wanted to be playing more regularly and, to be fair, it was probably better for me to move on anyway. "I've signed for a year and, like Chris, it will give me time to prove myself. "The manager said he'd give me an extension if I do that so I'll be doing my best. "Most of my games have been at right-back, though I can play in the middle of defence if required. But that's up to the boss." --------------- Tykes grab Vaughan BBC.co.uk Barnsley have snapped up Tony Vaughan following his exit from Mansfield Town. The 28-year-old centre-back previously played under Tykes boss Paul Hart at Nottingham Forest. "I know Tony very well and I can recognise the vital ingredients he will bring to the club," Hart told his club's website. Vaughan helped Mansfield to the Third Division play-offs last season and Hart added: "He's a tough competitor who is desperate to enjoy success with us." |
