CURLE SINGS PRAISES OF BATTLING STAGS
Evening Post website

Mansfield Town 1 v 1 Swansea City
Keith Curle sung the praises of his ten-man side as they scraped for a point against managerless Swansea.

Mansfield's task looked impossible after Tony Vaughan was shown a red card for a fiery challenge on Jonathan Coates and Andy Robinson put Swansea ahead.

But Liam Lawrence's penalty, early in the second half, secured a point.

Curle said: "It was a magnificent effort, especially after playing with ten men for so long. After the sending off I was delighted to see no-one trying to hide. The crowd were also superb and stayed behind us.

"After the break I thought there was only one team going to win it and that was us. We looked stronger in the last 20 minutes and it makes me wonder where this team has been for the last six weeks.

"Neil MacKenzie made a big difference on his return and he was our spark."

On Vaughan's sending off, Curle added: " I asked the referee why he sent Tony Vaughan off and he said he raised two hands and had to go. I later asked him why he didn't send off Paul Connor for the same thing but he changed his story."

CURTIS ADMITS HE WOULD HAVE SETTLED FOR A DRAW
South Wales Eveing Post website

Caretaker Swans manager Alan Curtis tried to stay upbeat but there was no denying his side should have done better after taking the lead against ten-man Mansfield.

Mansfield's task looked impossible after Tony Vaughan was shown a red card for a fiery challenge on Jonathan Coates and Andy Robinson put Swansea ahead.

But Liam Lawrence's penalty, early in the second half, secured a point.

Curtis said: "We would have settled for a draw before the game. Andy Robinson was a threat all night and took his goal well.

"We've all played against ten men and we know how hard it is. Mansfield played well after the break and probably feel they deserved the draw, I would not argue with them.

"I told my lads to keep their shape after the break and not give the home crowd anything to shout about but we then let them back into the game almost from the restart.

"I've no complaints about the penalty."
