CURLE ON INJURY NEWS AND LOAN PLAYERS
24th February 2004 16:29

mansfieldtown.net reports on the latest injury news: Jake Buxton, Colin Larkin and Lee Williamson all picked up knocks during game against Doncaster. Keith Curle told mansfieldtown.net: "Jake Buxton and Colin Larkin both received slight strains to their hamstring and Williamson took a knock to the back but resting over the weekend and easing back into training all should be fit and in contention for the weekend".

Possibly joining their team mates could be Bobby Hassell and Tom Curtis who are back in training after doing well following injury niggles. Curle told mansfieldtown.net: "I think that Tom's presence was missed on Saturday against Doncaster and I believe that the supporters saw that. Neil MacKenzie, again another creative player was missed through injury, he was booked into see a specialist yesterday who identified a similar scenario as Tom's injury and Neil will be going under the knife this week. Hopefully he will react and progress as quickly as Tom did and should be back in two or three weeks".

mansfieldtown.net reports that Alex John-Baptiste and Andy White are both doing well at Burton Albion. Burton boss Nigel Clough has commented to the Stags manager that he has been very pleased with the way the two youngsters have been performing. Reiterating his belief that going out on loan spells is the best thing for young players who are finding it difficult to break into the first team Curle said: "Just look at Jake Buxton, he went on loan and came back to capitalise on an opportunity of playing first team football here at the Stags and because he is now match fit, has turned out some good performances. I expect that when Alex and Andy return the same will be true of them."

Curle also told mansfieldtown.net: "I have told the players that we should put Saturday's result behind us and concentrate on the future. With seven games coming up, 6 of which are against teams in the top half of the table this is the time when we collectively earn our money. We have played all these teams before this season and have had them watched many times so there are no unknown entities. We know their strengths and weaknesses and have identified ours. The key point now is take the pluses and increase these and try to negate the negatives and we should be where we want to be at the beginning of April".
