RETENTION LIST OUT
25th April 2002 11:55

Stags Boss, Stuart Watkiss has today named the retention list. Stags fans everywhere will be wanting to know - who is going into Division 2 and who will be leaving to further their careers else where:

Stuart explains that there will be three plays who will not be getting new contracts for next season, but this is not because of the standard of play or personality of the individuals:

David Kelly: Kelly was brought in as a short term contract to help in the promotion campaign, he contributed to the cause magnificently both on the pitch and in the dressing room, who was a great influence on the younger players and Watkiss said that he "will be eternally grateful for the performance and input that Kelly added".

Alistair Asher: Asher was unfortunate that the introduction of Bobby Hassell in the right back position proved to be the factor that kept Asher on the bench, Alistair is a class player who deserves all the player of the year awards that he has won and Stuart Watkiss believes that he has the attributes to succeed in professional Football and be very successful elsewhere, another contributing factor is Young Jamie Clarke coming up through the ranks in full back.

Thirdly,

Adam Barratt who was offered a deal earlier in the season which was declined asked for his name to be circulated to which Watkiss obliged. The earlier offer now withdrawn, Adam will be looking at finding himself a new club to proceed with his career.

Probably the most disappointing, is Adam Murray who came to Field Mill on loan from Derby County. With the demotion of County, Derby's management team have made it clear that Murray is a pivotal part of their future plans when we asked about a more permanent arrangement - However, "we will be monitoring Adam Murray very closely as we would like him on board" said Watkiss.

Hopefully we will be seeing Adam back at Field Mill in the near future.

Everybody at the club recognizes the efforts of all these players and would like to wish them luck with their respective futures. Watkiss added that "If Shayne and Les are not fixed up with new clubs at the start of the season, they both have 1 year remaining of their contracts, they will play if it is right to play them on the day"

News about Transfers and new contracts will be posted on mansfieldtown.net later today.
