STRONG RESERVE SIDE DRAW WITH AUSTRALIA
6th October 2003 21:38

Mansfield Town X1 2 Australian Touring Side 2

6 Oct 2003

Stags put out a strong side for this friendly at Glapwell this afternoon (Monday) and were put through there paces by the visiting Australians.

As you can see from the line-up this was intended as a good run-out for a number of first team regulars and a few fringe players, and senior Youth team members.

Stags initially took the game to the visitors with Beardsley, Mitchell, Corden, and Lloyd all giving the Aussies something to think about with their attacking prowess.

Stags went ahead through Beardsley with and Stags went to the break 1 - 0 ahead and comfortable.

The only downside to the half was an injury to Hassell who was immediately replaced for treatment to be carried out.

However after the break Stags were asleep from the kick-off and immediately pegged back at 1-1. Then the Aussies had a breakaway which resulted in a penalty being awarded and dutifully scored to make it 2 - 1.

Stags immediately upped the gears and hit back with a Buxton header from a free-kick, to keep both sides happy with the run-out and a 2 - 2 draw.
