YOUTH TEAM WIN AT WREXHAM

23 Aug 2003 Stagsnet Report by John Street Stags Youth team continued there unbeaten run in the Youth League by coming away from North Wales with a 2 - 1 victory. Stags started brightly with Anton heading in a free-kick from Lloyd only to have the goal disallowed for pushing. Hankey then chased down the Wrexham Centre Half and received the benefit of the block to slide the ball past the home goalie. It was the home goalie who was at fault for Stags second when he allowed Mitchell to close down his clearance and poke the ball home for a 2 - 0 lead at the break. The second half was alll one way traffic towards the Stags goal, and following Wrexham getting one goal back with 25 minutes still to play, following one of those un-cleared goalmouth scrambles, the Stags were up against it. However with some resolute defending led by Buxton at the back, Stags held out for the points. Overall not a great performance, but battling spirit throughout!.
