WHITE SET TO SIGN NEW STAGS DEAL

Andy White is on the verge of signing a new contract at Mansfield and is glad weeks of speculation about his future are out of the way.

White is expecting to put pen to paper on a one-year deal in the next few days after a summer he wants to forget. He is determined not to put himself in the same position next year and wants to prove his worth to manager Keith Curle after receiving an improved offer from the club.

The 21-year-old said: "This summer has been a nightmare and I want to put it all behind me and get on with playing for Mansfield, which was always what I wanted to do.

"It's been a big headache but I am just glad it has all been resolved."

Although White reported to pre-season training with his Mansfield team-mates, he said he now feels a full part of Curle's plans.

He said: "I have spent most of the time feeling a bit left out. The lads have been fitting themselves up with new suits and discussing next week's trip to Cornwall and I haven't been involved but now I can move forward."

White trained with Bristol Rovers last week but says he only ever wanted to sign for Stags.

"I'm a local lad and didn't really want to move," he said.

Stags' pre-season schedule continued with a 2-1 defeat at Alfreton Town. Ryan France put the Reds ahead in the 35th minute before Craig Mitchell equalised from the spot. Grant Brown headed Alfreton's 89th-minute winner.
