This afternoon’s fixture at home to MK Dons has been postponed due to a waterlogged a pitch.

A local referee was called to inspect the field of play this morning following torrential rain in Mansfield.

Despite the best endeavours by the club’s ground staff, which has included areas of the pitch being covered all week, the match has been postponed.

Nigel Clough told iFollow Stags, Tues 12 Dec 2023

“We came up here to RH Academy and trained on the artificial pitch on Saturday.

“The grass pitches were waterlogged as well so it was the best we could do in the circumstances. Only a couple of lads couldn’t train on it - Stephen Quinn with his knee and Stephen McLaughlin we didn’t want to risk.

“Everyone else had a good runaround and it was much needed. We were desperate for a game on Saturday and having had the ten day break which was perfect, it’s now going to be two-and-a-half weeks which is a long time without a game.

“We were desperate to play on Saturday.”

MK Dons boss Mike Williamson told the MK Dons youtube channel:

"We were already up there (Mansfield) fully prepared. Found out the morning of the game, it's one of those things, the pitch it was completely wet through so there was no chance of it being on."

Game off between MK Dons and Mansfield Town
Heavy rainfall called the game into question overnight

The Citizen MK, By Toby Lock

MK Dons’ trip to Mansfield Town today (Saturday) has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Field Mill.

Heavy rain in the area overnight was set to continue throughout Saturday morning, with local officials deeming the pitch unplayable following an early inspection of the surface.

A statement from the Stags read: “A local referee was called to inspect the field of play this morning following torrential rain in Mansfield. Despite the best endeavours by the club’s ground staff, which has included areas of the pitch being covered all week, the match has been postponed.”

This is the third Saturday out of four which MK Dons have not been in action, with international call-ups and their FA Cup exit keeping them sidelined previously.

A date for the rearranged trip to Field Mill is yet to be established, with several games now piling up for Mike Williamson’s side.
