mansfieldtown.net, Sat 09 July 2022

Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the loan signing of forward Will Swan from Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who has experience playing in League Two with Port Vale in 2021, will join the rest of the Stags’ squad this afternoon at Retford United for the club’s first pre-season friendly.

The Mansfield-born player scored 12 goals in 22 matches, with six assists, in Forest under-23s’ campaign last season.

Mansfield manager Nigel Clough said: “Will is a young striker who needs further league experience and we’re delighted he’s joined us to bolster our striking options.

“He’ll bring youth and energy to the team.

“He’s a good all-round striker and a good finisher, given the opportunity.”

Forward: I couldn’t have picked a better club to come to

Mansfield Town forward Will Swan says he ‘couldn’t have picked a better club to come to’ after signing for the Stags on loan for the 2022/23 season from Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old attacker played 82 minutes in the club’s 1-0 win away at Matlock Town last night.

Having previously tasted life in Sky Bet League Two with Port Vale in 2021, Swan hopes to gather more first team experience at his hometown club.

Speaking to iFollow Stags after yesterday evening’s friendly at The Proctor Cars Stadium, he said: “It is a pleasure to put on this shirt and play for Mansfield.

“[The move to the club] Suits me really well.

“I want to play more first team football in League Two.

“This [move] presents the chance to get loads of experience.”

The former Truro City loanee has already featured twice in an amber and blue shirt in pre-season - against Retford on Saturday and Matlock last night - and says he’s building relationships with his new teammates.

When asked how he’s settling in, Swan said: “Really well.

“It’s a good challenge and I am looking forward to it.

“The gaffer, players and all the staff have made it really easy for me to settle in, after not being here long.

“I already think they have learnt how I play and know the things I want.

“I am starting to do the same with them.

“The chemistry is building right now.”

Born and raised in Mansfield, Swan discussed his previous playing history in Nottinghamshire.

“I played for Manor Black, Market Warsop and Clipstone Town [at a younger age] before joining Nottingham Forest at 14,” said the new signing.

“[My progression at Nottingham Forest] Has been really good.

“I have got along with all the coaches there.”

Previous loan spells at Truro and Port Vale have given Swan beneficial experience in men’s football.

“Truro was my first time playing men’s football,” he said.

“[The move was a chance to] Come to grips with the physical side of the game.

“Port Vale gave me chances to play more first team football in League Two.

“[League Two] Is a very tough league, you cannot just walk into it and expect to be the best player on the pitch.”

After his first two outings for the club, Swan says he is feeling ‘good’ at his new club.

“[Pre-season] Is there to build to the first game of the season.

“Both Saturday [away at Retford] and tonight were really good tests for us.

“It is good to get minutes and feel good.”
