Where to start with this season\ year, this past year has been by far the most difficult period in my professional and personal life, those who know me closely know exactly how hard I have found this year mentally and physically draining, on and off the pitch, not being able to do what I love doing and feeling like there is no light and the end of the tunnel has been difficult, but watching the lads get all the way to Wembley brought me genuine happiness and being able to be around it and step foot on that pitch in front of the fans again gave me that drive to want to get back out there again, unfortunately it wasn’t the result we was all wanting but to achieve what we achieved from where we came from shows the character we have as a Team, I’m going to work harder than I ever have to make sure I get back on that pitch doing what I love again and come back next season with a positive mind and push myself to the absolute limit next season we go. I’m hungrier than ever

Danny Johnson transfer-listed and Farrend Rawson released as Mansfield Town retained list is announced
chad.co.uk, By John Lomas, Tuesday 31st May 2022

Striker Danny Johnson has been made available for transfer and defender Farrend Rawson released as Mansfield Town today confirmed its retained list following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

Johnson had arrived with much optimism last summer after being top scorer at Leyton Orient and vowed to repeat his success with the Stags.

But he struggled to make an early impact and then saw the side go on a fantastic run of results when he was out injured and was left a spectator.

He does have another season on his contract but boss Nigel Clough has said he wants two new strikers in so it would appearg Johnson no longer figures in his plans.

Rawson, signed from Forest Green Rovers, lost his place in the centre of defence in the season run-in and did not even make the bench at Wembley last weekend.

He has already Tweeted: “@mansfieldtownfc it’s been a pleasure! Wishing you nothing but success and happiness for the future.”

Also leaving is veteran keeper Marek Stech as Clough looks for one or maybe two keepers, depending if Manchester United will allow Nathan Bishop to return for a second loan spell.

Jordan Bowery and James Perch have already agreed in principle to stay while talks have been opened with Irish veteran Stephen Quinn about a new deal too.

Retained and under contract: Lucas Akins, Kellan Gordon, Oli Hawkins, Elliott Hewitt, George Lapslie, Owen Mason, Rhys Oates, John-Joe O’Toole.

Options triggered: Ollie Clarke, Jason Law, George Maris, Stephen McLaughlin, Kieran Wallace.

Contract discussions underway: Jordan Bowery, James Perch, Stephen Quinn.

Loans expired: Nathan Bishop, Matty Longstaff, Jamie Murphy, Ryan Stirk.

Available for transfer: Danny Johnson.

Released: Josh Scott, Marek Stech, Farrend Rawson.

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough speaks on decision to release Farrend Rawson and Danny Johnson
chad.co.uk, By John Lomas, Tuesday 7th June 2022

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough today spoke over his decision to release central defender Farrend Rawson and put striker Danny Johnson on the transfer list.

Veteran goalkeeper Marek Stech was also shown the door when the club announced its retained list last week.

“It's always difficult to release players, but we had to make a decision and release a couple,” said Clough.

“We were signing another goalkeeper to replace Marek, but Faz Rawson was a very difficult one as he'd had a good couple of years here.

“It's just with the number of defenders we've got really. With (John-Joe) O'Toole, (Oli) Hawkins, (James) Perch and (Elliott) Hewitt we've got quite a few central defenders and we will probably sign one in the summer as well.

“So, unfortunately, Faz just becomes surplus to requirements.

“But it's been a pleasure having him around and working with him for a couple of years. He is one of the most genuine and honest lads you could ever wish to work with.”

Rawson, signed from Forest Green Rovers, lost his place in the centre of defence in the season run-in and did not even make the bench at Wembley last weekend.

He tweeted: “@mansfieldtownfc it’s been a pleasure! Wishing you nothing but success and happiness for the future.”

Johnson arrived as Leyton Orient's top scorer in a blaze of publicity last summer with a vow to repeat his scoring feats from the East London club.

“It has just not quite worked out with Danny. With all the will in the world sometimes it just doesn't,” said Clough.

“I think it was the timing of his injury.

“Just when it looked like he was going to hit a bit of form, scoring the hat-trick against Newcastle, he was then out for 10 weeks when the fortunes of the team turned around.

“Jordan (Bowery) scored goals, Oatesy (Rhys Oates) scored goals, so it's been difficult for us to be able to give him that opportunity and that run of games that he probably needed.

“So it's just circumstances more than anything, rather than him sitting around again for another season. It is an opportunity for Danny to go and get fixed up.”
