STAGS SIGN JAMIE MURPHY ON LOAN FROM HIBS
8th February 2022 11:01

Stags sign former Scottish international
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 31 January 2022, just after midnight (12.10am on 1 Feb)

Mansfield Town are delighted to announce the signing of Hibernian attacker Jamie Murphy on loan until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 32-year-old reignites his relationship with Stags’ boss Nigel Clough who he played under at both Sheffield United and Burton Albion.

The former Scottish international began his career at Motherwell, making his debut in 2006 and eventually recording 176 appearances.

Jamie, who can also play in midfield, scored 34 times for the Steelmen, becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer in European football.

The Glaswegian left his homeland in 2013, swapping Edinburgh for south Yorkshire as he joined Sheffield United on a permanent deal.

After two seasons with the Blades, the Glasgow-born wideman joined Brighton & Hove Albion. In the 2016-17 season, Murphy made 37 league appearances - scoring six goals - as Brighton gained promotion to the Premier League.

After a year and a half in the English topflight, the midfielder signed for Glasgow Rangers where he spent three years. During that time he represented the club in the qualifying stages of the Champions League.

A loan spell at Burton Albion in 2020 saw him again link up with Stags’ chief Nigel Clough. Under the manager, Jamie scored seven times in just ten matches for the Brewers.

He returned to Scotland with Hibernian in 2020, before signing a permanent deal last year.

Stags’ boss Nigel Clough said: “Jamie is another player who we’ve worked with before and who we hold in very high regard. He’s the sort of player who can turn a game in an instant and will supplement our striking options.

“He can play wide or up in the middle in an attacking role, equally effective.

“We’re very excited he’s coming to Mansfield.”

Nigel Clough later told Colin Hazelden of BBC, video on iFollow Stags, 7 Feb 2022:
on the transfer deadline day deals:

"What we don't want to do is give the impression that we're splashing money, because the two players that have come in, have saved us money on the two or three that have gone out."

(Comment by Martin: presumably referring to: in: Longstaff, Murphy; out Charsley, O'Keeffe. I think this strongly suggests that we are not paying Longstaff's wages.)

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough declared himself 'absolutely delighted' with his January transfer business.

After signing John-Joe O'Toole, Lucas Akins and Keiran Wallace, Stags stunned their promotion rivals with the late additions of Newcastle United starlet midfielder Longstaff and former Scottish international forward Jamie Murphy.

On the signing of experienced Murphy, Clough said:“We have worked with him a couple of times before - once at Sheffield United and then we had him on loan at Burton before Covid came.

“He is an outstanding player and we are very fortunate to get him to come to Mansfield.

“He is another one that could make the difference on nights like tonight.

“He plays anywhere across the front three or just behind the forwards.

“He scored 10 goals in the first three months on loan at Burton in League One, so we're looking forward to seeing him.”

Nigel Clough told Craig Priest for Mansfield 103.2 about transfer deadline day:
"David (Sharpe) and Simon (Clough) were working very long hours in the office. I was on the end of the phone. It went right to the wire in the end. I think we finished the phonecalls about quarter to 12, 12 o'clock, something like that.

Jamie Murphy told iFollow Stags, Thur 3 Feb 2022

“Having worked with the manager before I knew what he wants. It's been a good first day.
“It’s brilliant, I was really surprised with the training ground and stuff like that. They are brand new, great facilities, there’s everything you need here to be a good player.
“There was a lot of talent in there (the squad), people who work hard and people that are good on the ball. Hopefully I can try and help the club achieve what they want to achieve.
"My season's been good. A few injuries, a little stop-start. But still a lot in the tank.
“The club is very forward thinking, they want to progress.”
“Obviously, having worked with the manager before I knew what he wants and just the opportunity to come down and have a new challenge.
“He’s good. He’s very fair. If you work hard for him then he’ll work hard for you on and off the pitch. You want to repay him. You want to repay all the staff because they’re all great, hopefully I can do that.”
(On when he knew the move might be in the offing): "A few days ago. Transfer windows normally go right to the wire these days. Just glad to get it done in the end.
(On his qualities): “That’s for other people to judge. I’ll go out there and try to do my best, hopefully that’s good enough.
“There is no secret to it, you work hard and try to enjoy your football and usually performances come.
(On his versatility): “Yes, it’s something I’ve done throughout my career. I can play up front, wide left and play number ten, so I’m sure the manager will know where to put me.”
(On what he's expecting from playing in League Two): “I'm not sure. Obviously, I’ve never played here before. I’ve played in every other league it seems in the UK but I’m not really looking at the other teams, I’m looking at our team and what we can do. Hopefully we’ll go on and win some games.”
"I'm not the loudest person in the changing room.
“We’ve obviously been doing well and are on a good run. Hopefully we can keep it going.”
“If you’re coming into a team and they’ve not won in ten then it’s obviously going to be difficult. It’s always easier (to join a club doing well).
“There’s confidence there in the changing room and hopefully that stays."

Jamie Murphy Joins Mansfield Town On Loan
https://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/article/jamie-murphy-joins-mansfield-town-on-loan

Jamie Murphy has today joined English League Two side Mansfield Town on loan.

The 32-year-old winger will link up with Nigel Clough’s side for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, which will see his time at Hibernian FC come to an end as his contract expires at the end of the current season.

Murphy joined us originally on loan at the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign before signing permanently a year later.

To date, he’s made 50 appearances for us, with 18 of those coming during the current campaign.

This is the third time that the winger has played under Clough, he starred under him in 2020 for Burton Albion after a loan switch from Rangers.

We’d like to thank ‘Murph’ for all his efforts and wish him the best in the future.

Morgan Rogers: Hibs miss out on Man City forward as he opts for another Championship stint, Jamie Murphy and Alex Gogic still could leave
The Scotsman scotsman.com, By Mark Atkinson, Monday 31st January 2022, 8:52 pm

Hibs have missed out on the loan signing of Man City forward Morgan Rogers after the 19-year-old decided to remain in the Skybet Championship instead.

The Easter Road outfit put together a strong package to try and convince the England Under-20 internationalist that he should move north until the end of the season after it emerged that his parent club had decided to end his loan spell at Bournemouth, but after Huddersfield and Blackpool showed late interest, Rogers felt that he would be best suited staying in the second tier of English football.

Blackpool are now the favourites to land him, although a move there appears to depend on Josh Bowler departing Bloomfield Road for Nottingham Forest.

Hibs manager Shaun Maloney was keen to reinforce his forward line with pace following the departure of Martin Boyle to Al-Faisaly, but it appears - barring a late change of heart - that Rogers will not be that player.

The Scotsman understands that Hibs may not now add to their squad before the January window closes tonight, but Jamie Murphy could still move to Mansfield Town and negotiations continue between Alex Gogic and St Mirren.

Hibs transfers: Man City's Morgan Rogers is No 1 target, Jamie Murphy departure could happen, Scott Allan could stay despite interest
The Scotsman scotsman.com, By Mark Atkinson, Monday 31st January 2022

Hibs want to bring in Man City youngster Morgan Rogers before the transfer window closes tonight.

Rogers, a 19-year-old English winger, joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy in the summer, but he has found it hard to break into the the Cherries’ starting XI under Scott Parker.

Rogers has made 15 appearances for the Skybet Championship title contenders, but the overwhelming majority of them have been from the bench. The player and his parent club want him to get more game-time and he has emerged as Hibs boss Shaun Maloney’s No 1 target before the January transfer window ends.

Huddersfield Town and Blackpool have been linked with the England Under-20 internationalist, but Hibs are very keen to bring him north of the border.

Bournemouth are aware of the potential situation and are looking at attacking reinforcements should Man City decide, as anticipated, to pull the plug on the loan deal.

If Rogers does sign, it would pave the way for fellow forward Jamie Murphy to leave Hibs and sign for Mansfield, with the Easter Road club happy to let the 32-year-old move on. Murphy has been part of the first team this season but The Scotsman understands that Maloney will not stand in the way of the move.
