Nigel Clough told iFollow Stags:

“We wanted to play. When you’re in the run that we’re in you want to keep playing.

“Everybody was disappointed when the game was called off.

“I think the vast majority in the country were [disappointed at games being postponed] but we were looking forward to going down there and continuing our good run.”

“Sometimes when you get a postponement and you’ve got a few injuries or are in a bad run it can be a bit of a relief.

"But it says a lot about our players at the moment that when we found out the game was off there was real disappointment.

"The players can’t wait for the next game and we go into the festive period with a lot of confidence and optimism around the place.”

Rob Edwards told the FGR youtube page, Tues 21 Dec 2021:
"When I last spoke to you on Thursday, we were in a good place.
"I had a family funeral on Friday when everything started happening.
"I was getting phonecalls saying we'd had a couple of lads showing some symptoms. So we decided to test the group. And then we had a number of positive cases which exploded all on Friday."
"We were at about 11 or 12 outfield players available so the game was impossible to get on."

Covid cases are on the rise across the country. How is everyone at Forest Green?

Everyone is okay at the moment. We’ve had to be a little bit more strict with some of our policies. We’ve had to maintain some of the stuff throughout the season, like numbers in the changing rooms, how we travel, but we’re having to up our game a little bit more because it’s prevalent around the country and it's rearing its head again. Football fixtures are suffering, but we’re all good.
All you can do is continue to be vigilant...
It’s there and it’s inevitable that at some stage across the winter we’re going to be affected by it. We have to try and be vigilant and hopefully we can get through it.

Mansfield are in really good form at the moment. What are they doing well at the moment?

They’ve got good players and a good way of playing. They’re very energetic and they have lots of energy within the team, particularly in central areas with (Rhys) Oates, (George) Lapslie and (George) Maris. They will press aggressively, they will regain the ball quickly, they’re defending well and they’ve found a good balance of keeping the opposition out whilst still remaining a threat. What they haven’t done is open up gaps on teams, but they’ve threatened to do that. They’re playing with confidence and belief. They’re a threat from crosses and they get good numbers in the box - particularly with (Stephen) McLaughlin’s crosses from the left. They’re a really difficult team. They’re the in-form team in the league, you would say. It makes for a very good game on Saturday.
They have an experienced manager in Nigel Clough, what’s it like going up against somebody like that?
I’ll tell you after Saturday. He was a top player and now he’s a really experienced manager. He’s been there and done it and you can see that with how he managed them (Mansfield) through a difficult period and now they’ve turned the corner and look a very good team. I have a lot of respect for Nigel and what he’s done. I’ve said this a lot this year, but to go up against these people who have managed hundreds of games is all great experience for me.

Saturday is the battle of the two form teams...

You’re right. Both teams are coming into it feeling confident, which makes for a good game. They’re a good team and they’ve got good players, but we’re a good team and we have good players. Let’s go out and have it and see who comes out on top.
