Mansfield Town is delighted to confirm the signing of defender Will Forrester on loan from Stoke City.

The 20-year-old joins the Stags until 09 January 2022.

Forrester, who can play in the centre of defence or at right back, is a regular for the Potters’ under-23s.

He marked his first team debut with a goal against AFC Bournemouth on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign.

He is currently continuing rehabilitation following an ankle injury and is expected to be available in around two weeks.

After signing, Forrester said: “I’m grateful to the manager [Nigel Clough] for giving me this opportunity and can’t wait to get started at the club.

“As soon as I heard of Mansfield’s interest, my mind was made up. They were my first choice of club who I wanted to go on loan to.

“I’m looking forward to working hard in training and in games, if and when I get my chance.”

On his playing style, he added: “I love to defend; making blocks and tackles. That’s my priority. Alongside that I like to have the ball at my feet, step into midfield and break the lines with my passing.”

Boss discusses deadline day deals
mansfieldtown.net, Tuesday 31st August 2021

Manager Nigel Clough discussed his two deadline day acquisitions following Stags’ Papa John’s Trophy opener away to Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after the game it was announced that Stoke defender Will Forrester has joined the club on loan until January, along with Burnley defender Richard Nartey arriving on loan until the end of the campaign.

The manager says Forrester is rated ‘highly’ at Stoke City, and that Nartey is a ‘very good character.’

“[They are] two young players with potential,” he explained. “Will Forrester has a knock at the moment so won’t join us for the next couple of weeks.

“He’s played a couple of times for Stoke’s first team and they rate him highly there, so he’ll come and get some experience with us.

Stags’ squad has ‘good balance’ - manager
mansfieldtown.net, Wednesday 1st September 2021

Following yesterday’s closure of the transfer window, boss Nigel Clough says the ‘balance is good’ within the Mansfield Town squad.

The Stags made two first team acquisitions on deadline day, bringing in defenders Will Forrester and Richard Nartey, on loan from Stoke City and Burnley, respectively.

Speaking more on his deadline day signings, the boss says his two new players will give the Stags ‘much-needed cover’ in the defensive area.

“They [Forrester and Nartey] will give us some much-needed cover. They’ll also be vying for a starting place. We definitely needed to strengthen in that area.

On Forrester, the boss added: “He’s had it [injury] since pre-season, so we’ll be very much guided by Stoke. He’s going to stay there to do his rehab until he’s ready to join in [training] sessions.

“The deal is structured so we don’t start paying until he’s fit. He’s another good, young centre-half, who has played a couple of times for Stoke’s first team. We think he’s got a lot of potential.

“He’s another one who will come in, be around the squad and challenge for a place.”

Fellow deadline day loanee Will Forrester from Stoke City will be another couple of weeks as he recovers from an ankle injury.

“He has had it since pre-season so we will very much be guided by Stoke,” said Clough.

“He is going to stay there to do his rehab until he is ready to actually join in sessions.

“He may do the first one or two at Stoke to make sure he is all okay.

“The deal is structured that we don't start paying him until he is fit anyway.

“But he is another good young centre half. He's played a couple of times for Stoke's first team and we think he's got a lot of potential.

“So he is going to come in, be around the squad, and challenge for a place.”

- we were trying to delay the Richard Nartey signing, while waiting on other targets. Burnley sent the paperwork before we had asked for it! Nartey wanted to come to us because of location.
- top target was Sam Hughes, from Leicester, on loan, turning in to permanent in January. Everything was agreed. Wasn't going to be fit until November though.
- Simon Clough and Matt Ash were looking at footage of Forrester from Stoke City, "they like him" says Sharpe. "It would be a very cheap loan".
- bad news comes in that Sam Hughes chosen to go to League One Burton.
- "the other lad, from Oldham" (not named but we know is Carl Piergianni), also not happening as Oldham want to keep him.
- so we moved on to Nartey and Forrester.
