Young duo sign extended contracts
mansfieldtown.net, Fri 18 June 2021 Mansfield Town midfielder Keaton Ward and left-back Jaden Charles have signed extended contracts at One Call Stadium, the club is pleased to announce. Ward, 21, made six substitute appearances for the Stags last season and one start since signing on a free transfer from Barnsley in March. A Stags’ Academy graduate, he was born at King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield and originates from Forest Town. Charles, 19, appeared twice as a substitute last season after penning a short-term contract in late March. Son of former England international Gary, he was formerly at Derby County’s academy for ten years. On the Oldham game, his first start in professional football: "I didn't know I was starting until an hour and a half before the game, I was just buzzing when I saw my name on the team sheet. "I just had to go out and prove myself and I think I gave a good account of myself. "(Nigel Clough) has been brilliant with me, he's helped me. "Nigel spoke to me last season and said he wanted me to be part of his squad next year. "I spent 10 years at the Derby County academy and I think that's helped me a lot. "I'm a left back. "I really enjoyed coming on in the last 10-15 minutes (in the last two games of the season), ... what I've been working towards my whole life.
