Young duo sign new contracts
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 22nd March 2021

Mansfield Town is delighted to announce that Jason Law and Tyrese Sinclair have penned new contracts at One Call Stadium until June 2022.

The club also has the option of extending both deals for a further year.

Attacking midfielder Law burst on to the first team scene last November, impressing in a 2-1 victory at Scunthorpe in the Papa John’s Trophy. The 21-year-old since made his league debut in February at home to Cambridge United and has gone on to appear eight times for the first team.

Sinclair, a graduate of the club’s Academy, has played 14 games this season, mostly as a substitute.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder had previously made his first team debut in the EFL Trophy against Everton under-21s in August 2019.

Stags’ boss Nigel Clough said: “Jason Law has broken into the first team in the last few weeks. He’s done very well in training since we came in and it was only a matter of time before he got an opportunity.

“He’s someone we want to give some game time to this season, with a view to him being an important player for us next season.

“Tyrese is still on the fringes and probably needs to get some football on loan somewhere. We’ll look at that this season, if not next season.

“He’s another player who’s showed some potential and has displayed certain good things in matches.

“We’re pleased to have Jason and Tyrese for at least another year,” he added.

Mansfield Town duo Jason Law and Tyrese Sinclair sign contract extensions

Mansfield Town duo Tyrese Sinclair and Jason Law have signed contract extensions.

The Stags youngsters have both committed their future at the club until the end of next season after impressing during first team appearances this term.

“It is great to see the players coming through the academy,” manager Nigel Clough said.

“The most efficient way to get players is produce your own and it's great to see them have extended deals.

“It has taken Jason some time to get to the first team squad and he has had to be patient with loans over the years.

“When we came in we wanted to have a good look at him and he has improved in training with the first team.

“A big part of it is feeling that you belong, he is still in the process of achieving that but the only way he will get there is by playing games."

Clough has given both players chances in the first team this season, which he believes is the only way to help them develop.

He added: “It is vital that young players must have an opportunity. A lot of people can say they aren't good enough without looking for them.

“You have to be prepared to look at them and accept mistakes and below par performances as they develop.

“If the opportunity is there we will look at players. They are there to challenge the senior players and try and get their place in the team and keep it.

“That competition is healthy and the senior players appreciate it and know they have to be on it.”
