Defender Aaron O’Driscoll has joined Irish side Longford Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old has been limited to a handful of senior appearances this season, and will spend the remainder of the campaign on loan with the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division side.

“We nearly got Aaron out to the Conference [in January] but it didn’t quite work out,” said manager Nigel Clough.

“Longford Town expressed an interest and we wanted to help him out as best we could, so that he could go out and play some games.

“The good thing is they play until the end of June, so he’ll also get games in May and June as well.

“He’s played very little football in the first half of the season, so he’s desperate to go out and play, and we want him to go out and play as well.”

21 year old O’Driscoll, who played schoolboy football for Cherry Orchard, was signed by Southampton in 2016 after a stint at Manchester City.

He then joined Mansfield Town after 4 years with the 'Saints'.

The highly rated centre-back will add huge reinforcement to Daire Doyle's defence as we shape up for our return to Premier Division football on March 20th.

Speaking to LTFC.ie on signing, Aaron, who must self isolate for two weeks upon returning to Ireland, explained his decision in signing for Longford:

"After speaking to Daire over the last few weeks and hearing his plans for me and how the team wanted to play. I think it will be the perfect place for me to get back enjoying my football again..."

When asked about his aims for his time in Red & Black, the 6ft 2 Dubliner kept it simple;

"Hopefully I can come in and help the team do well in the league and impress the fans with my individual performances as-well."
