MINUTES SILENCE IN RESPECT OF MATT GENEVER

This Saturday’s game away at Inter Blades (Sheffield United,) will be marked by a minutes silence in respect of the untimely death of Follow The Yellow Brick Road player and big time Stags fan, Matt Genever.

FTYBR FC manager, Steve Hartshorn feels it would have been something that Matt would have appreciated.

“Matt was a lovely lad who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He would find it fitting that the game between us and Sheffield United should start with a minutes silence out of respect. He used to love to play in these games and for certain we will be going out to try to win the game in his honour.”

Matt played for the side from 2000 onwards and indeed made his last appearance in the teams fine 2-0 win away at Dagenham & Redbridge on the final day of last season.

Steve Hartshorn explains that Matt’s attitude was always stop on,

“Although his work took Matt away from the area, whenever we played near where he was, he would turn up with his boot-bag and a welcoming smile. Never once did I hear him complain, well other than about his Mansfield Town of course.

Matt made his first appearance during a 3-2 defeat away at Darlington in December 2000. He was at the time the main force behind The Stags having terrific coverage on new local radio station, Mansfield 103.2. He even trotted out onto the pitch with dyed Blue and Amber hair, much to the amusement of both sides.

There is no doubt that as a player and more importantly as a person, Matt will be sadly missed and a minutes silence before the game against Sheffield United is something that both team managers and players feel will be a fitting tribute to a great friend.
