International career (Research by Martin Shaw):

Soon after becoming Britain's most expensive defender when he left Wimbledon for Manchester City in a £2.5million deal in 1991, Curle was in the England 'B' side, and then in 1992 promoted to the full England squad by Graham Taylor.

Curle was not in the original squad for the 1992 European Championships, but when Gary Stevens withdrew, Curle was the replacement. Stevens himself had replaced Lee Dixon. With no right backs left in the squad, Taylor used central defender Curle at right back against Denmark (the eventual winners). But Curle was substituted after 62 minutes and he came in for criticism whilst it was considered that he was played out of position. Trevor Steven then moved to right back. England drew the next game with France 0-0, then lost 2-1 to Sweden and were out. Meanwhile Curle’s England career was over.

He played three times for the full England team. Full details of the England caps:

CIS 2 England 2, 29 April 1992, Lenin Stadium, Moscow, Friendly: Substitute (for Andy Sinton). England scorers T.Steven, G.Lineker.

Hungary 0 England 1, 12 May 1992, Nepstadion, Budapest, Friendly: Started, later substituted (replaced by Andy Sinton). England scorer N.Webb.

Denmark 0 England 0, 11 June 1992, Malmo Stadium, European Championship 1992 Finals Tournament: Started, booked after 11 mins for foul on Henrik Andersen, later substituted (replaced by Tony Daley) after 62 mins.
