It’s in our nature, after years and years of near misses and false dawns, to be pessimistic. But at some point we’re going to have come to terms with the fact that we’re a bloody good team and squad, we’re top of the league and we might just bloody well do this.

I consider myself to be the worst of the lot when it comes to pessimism. The capitulation under flitcroft still sends shivers down my spine.

But this finally feels like we are getting the promotion we've all been waiting for.

Coughlans interview is a load of absolute nonsense, blimey.

Good away performance today, Cargill the difference maker with some quality for the goal. Again we could have scored 4 or 5 with better finishing. The subs made a big difference, particularly Akins, and it's the strength in depth that's the key factor - hopefully - this year.

Talk of being champions. I think we ought to first concrete the 'P' next to our name in the league table before we look for the 'C'.

Going up top would be Dreamland given our history.

I think it's happening though.

After a long journey back from Newport with a grin on my face, the cheek muscles are hurting.

What a win. What a huge win. That felt bigger than the thrashings we have dished out lately and it was incredibly comfortable in the end! This side is a different gravy. I suggest that every single person drinks this in, because these types of teams only come around every couple of decades.

We are top of the league because we are the best side in the league.

Comments on radio Wales at the start of second half.

Just got to my phone after an amazing day. We worked really hard and showed the grit champions show.
The ref was very firm and we got the better of a couple of decisions but to my mind he got the big decisions right. Walking back to the car, the fans were bleating about the penalty that was not given and the fact that they never got a single free kick.
The back four were, yet again, imperious and Newport barely got a look in.

Listening to the commentary today it was really noticable that after Maris scored their fans never made a peep. Even that far out they knew the jig was up.

Not sure how a team can have no shots on target and yet complain about losing.

Don't put any thoughts on what he has to say. Earlier this season after a match they lost and GC said they'd done enough to win multiple games. They had 2 shots on target  he was technically correct, but he certainly seems like a petty, bitter little man.

Although a different type of performance, that's up there with my favourites of the season.
Well done to all...

Having watched the game on iFollow, the decision that Clueless Coughlan seems to be moaning about is the foul that Boateng made that led to him being booked after that phase of play ended - which was after we scored the goal.

It happened down our left/ their right, on the touchline. Boateng was definitely late and it was a booking, but the ball broke to their player in an attacking position so the referee (rightfully) played advantage.

Clueless moaned that there was no advantage because we had 4 players around their 2....that was because our player's workrate to get back was better than their desire to make runs forward. The advantage played out, they lost the ball, and we went on to go forwards and score.

He came across as no different to when he was here. He's the worst manager we've ever had for a reason. They had no shots on target and wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now.

After the first 20 minutes radio Wales commentators said , Stags better team , more organised, had a game plan ,Newport showed no threat in final third , see why Stags are top of the league, only going to be one winner, no doubt Mansfield would win, etc, etc

I agreed with everything they said while constantly thinking don’t let this be another Wimbledon, The joy of being a stags fan .

That’s what we do though, if you do the basics right the rest follows, and that’s what this side does in spades.

The thing i love about it is that there isn’t anyone in the squad that would throw themselves in, each and everyone one of them does it - no big time charlie's needed in this squad.

Really big win at an inform team, just like harrogate and salford. Win on tuesday would be huge
