As good as Lucas' goal was, it showed how we lack pace from a striker in behind.
Had that fallen to a player with pace, they'd have been away from that last defender after their first touch.
Thankfully Lucas cut inside him well and finished it off.
However, not long after the goal Lucas found himself in a similar position that again, with a bit of pace up front would have seen him past the last man and through on goal. Similar has happened this season with DKD in behind too.
This is not a slight on Akins as for me, he's not up there to do that job anyway, without him we wouldn't have been anywhere near getting back into that game yesterday.
But the players we have on the books that are there to do that job have just not been good enough. Swan is a shadow of his former self.
Oates couldn't finish his dinner despite working his arris off and being capable of running in behind.
That's why it would be good to go for a young pacey striker on loan from maybe a Prem/Championship team if possible. Loan Gale out for much needed game time...perhaps send Swan out to get some confidence back and game time too?
I'm surprised at the moment, Abdullah hasn't been given an opportunity though given he did well in the tinpot cup.
