Giving teams a hiding. What is a hiding to you?

Postby gazza1988 » Mon Nov 20, 2023 11:41 am

Just read adamstag's post on the match scorethread and he mentions about giving sides a hiding (not just him I think we've all said it before) and it got me thinking, what constitutes a "hiding"?

We've put 4 goals past 11.7%of the teams we've face din the league.

Is it a high win margin or just goals scored?

What scoreline, as a minimum would classify as a hiding.

I’d say winning by 4 or more, but it’s subjective.

If we keep winning games 1-0/2-0 im not particularly bothered about giving anyone a “hiding” as its points that is the currency we care about.

Obviously it's completely subjective, but to me a "hiding" is 5-0 or better. 4-0 is only a "convincing win", as it's quite common.

I'd say 4-0 or better, but it can depend on the nature of the game, I saw Spurs thrash Sunderland 1-0. :D

We gave Barrow a hiding tbh. Anything 5-0 or better imo. My favourite score line happened on Saturday. 2-0 is a good score line. 0-1 away is satisfying

A good hiding is what Clownty got when we turned up this season. Williams practically said that was what it was.
But as some say on here if we win another 20 1-0 I'll be as happy as Chris Akabusi

Come on, be realistic. No one can be as happy as Kris Akabusi!

I think a thrashing starts at 3-0. :D

But where does a spanking start?

It goes
2-0 Solid win
3-0 Hiding
4-0 Thrashing
5-0 Spanking
6-0 Absolute tonking
7-0 Pasting
8-0 Annihilation

If you like these sorts of questions I highly recommend the Football Cliches podcast hosted by Adam Hurrey.

And 4-goal-clear win for me

I'll check it out.

I do enjoy these kind of random questions, that is pretty much just pure opinion.

Did anyone else lose their raspberries when we were 8-1 up v Barrow with 20 minutes to go & took our foot off the gas?
