Dave Caldwell photo

Postby steiner » Fri Oct 19, 2018 4:15 pm

I have been trying to get hold of a Dave Caldwell photograph to frame (scoring action and not one of the boring squad images) but the chad photo buying site has none, wondered if anyone on here could point me in the right direction or may even have one to sell me.

Caldwell was an exciting player - "Roy of the Rovers".
The first part of his career he was used as an impact sub .... and what an impact he made when he came on! His pace scared defenders. He had good ball control and could dribble around several players before releasing a fierce shot.
He had so much talent, but I think his failing was that he didn't have the right professional focus - some of his colleagues and managers found him frustrating at times. Otherwise he could have had an illustrious career at a much higher level.
He is one of the most exciting players ever to wear a Stags shirt in my memory. Jimmy McCaffrey and Kevin Randall had a similar effect, but even they couldn't run rings around defenders like Dave Caldwell could.

He used to lodge upstairs at my local when he was at Spireites, he liked a pint or two that's for sure. Decent bloke.

Amazing player. Could’ve been even greater but his wayward personality made him the player he was. Crowd pullers like him are what the game needs. So much talent

How many other players have, despite playing for the sheep botherers and ourselves, been treated with so much respect and admiration?

Lormor, Holland, Wilkinson? Nope. Just goes to show that Dave Caldwell, as a player and a person had the little extra something that set him apart from the herd.

What a player, made Phil Stant look like the secretary of the WI. I have a photo of my 9year old self with Caldwell when I was mascot v's York in April 1982, but I'm presuming that you aren't after that kind of pic.

I left the ground that day convinced we'd won 6-2.

Mind you I was very very drunk (just like Dave).

Just missed Waggy, so I agree with Jimmy Mac but also Duncan McKenzie on loan was a brilliant player.
